Query from Doris Hoppe, Ontario, Canada: Is it true that we are living many lives simultaneously?
This is one of the many debates sparked by the possibility of the existence of an infinite number of universes. At the moment, the idea of simultaneous lives is still a theory. That having been said, psychologists and psychiatrists have, over the past 40 years in particular, encountered what appears to be evidence that consciousness does not end with physical death. The experience of consciousness after death reported by hundreds and hundreds of people are internally consistent to an amazing extent. But not in ways that one would presume based on any of the monotheistic religious interpretations of the afterlife…
FAQ Simultaneous Lives
The most comprehensive treatment of what happens between lifetimes – yes, reincarnation seems to be a universal experience in humans ! – has been presented by Dr. Michael Newton. Hundreds of his patients have reported that conscious beings and their spirit guides gather after physical death to review with the newly arrived soul the previous lifetime and devise a plan of study to help prepare them for the next incarnation. These clients explain that each consciousness splits away from its primary “particle”, leaving the particle behind in the ‘Bardo’ when they incarnate on earth. The primary “particle” is the link to the soul of each of us which in part may help to explain the experience of so many people that they feel they don’t really ‘belong’ here or are somehow “incomplete”, as though a sort of psychological phantom limb exists somewhere but they can’t remember where.
Some of Dr. Newton’s cases reported being aware of simultaneous lives but these were “advanced souls” who had reincarnated many thousands of times (These are souls at Level 5 in the tracking system devised by Newton – the highest evolved souls he has been able to work with). If their reports are true it would appear that we must await the time when we reach Level 5 and thereafter are absorbed into the next levels of post-physical reality. Given what particle physics is turning up, this division of consciousness that allows for reincarnation to take place may provide a theoretical model of how it is possible for us to exist in two dimensions at once: the soul world and the physical world. If this is truly what happens, then theoretically, our souls could subdivide into other universes at the same time.
From the scientific perspective as I understand it – and that is as a non-scientist to be sure – the theory of simultaneous lives is the result of speculation on the implications of Field String Theory by physicists such as Michio Kaku at City University of New York and Brian Green of Columbia University also in New York. It is important to note that Field String Theory is based on pure mathematics rather than physical evidence of the sort that most other fields of science rely upon and, until there is physical evidence that we exist simultaneously in parallel universes, we cannot assert it as true.
