Psychic Tools for Psychic Readings by Psychic Delia O'Riordan

Have you ever had a psychic reading using a crystal ball? Crystal balls are amazing things. They attract us. They tantalize us. They can put us into a trance state and in that state we may “see” future events or answer questions about the past. Or so we are told by the crystal scryers who use them. Certainly a well-made crystal ball is a thing of great beauty and beauty can be mesmerizing in itself. But where does the crystal ball as a psychic tool come from and how did they acquire their reputation as tools for divination?

Perhaps the best known advocate of the use of crystal spheres was the scientist and advisor to Elizabeth I, Dr. John Dee. Dee was by training a mathematician and numerologist, an astronomer and an astrologer, a cartographer and expert in navigation and a herbalist and alchemist. In the heady days of the Renaissance these practices were considered part of a continuum and not as separate – let alone incompatible – areas of study as they are today. For example, numerology was the occult study of the qualities of number whilst mathematics was the study of number as measurement.  To Dee’s mind, the entire universe was a mathematical construction that included – of necessity – all possibilities ofPerfect Crystal Ball discussed by Delia O' Riordan interpretation. Likewise, his interest in the properties of minerals was both esoteric and practical and quartz crystals in particular fascinated him for their potential to induce a trance state. I’ve never had much interest in crystal gazing for psychic readings but I do find that holding a crystal that fits comfortably in the palm of my hand has a calming effect on me and helps me to let go of left-brain analytical thought so that I can make the shift to right brain functioning. However, for the purposes of this article I got out a quartz crystal ball my husband brought back for me from Argentina. It’s a beautiful piece of rutilated quartz with amber tone inclusions. Because of the rutilation, it is not a clear vehicle for “reading”. However, it has other uses and now that I’ve brought it out again I intend using it over the next three weeks for the Deepak Chopra 21 day Meditation Challenge that focuses on Abundance. Rutilated quartz is helpful in removing emotional resistance to change and is often used in meditation to help the meditator release persistent thoughts. Because of its positive associations with change it is particularly useful when one has a desire to make a specific change in one’s life and who wouldn’t want greater abundance in all aspects of life?
