Amazing Psychic Cases Soul Cards
I have used Deborah Koff-Chapin’s Soul Cards for some of the most amazing psychic cases I have had in my work as a psychic-medium.I discovered Deborah as a result of a number of synchronicities. I had been looking for a psychic tool that would be more personal to my clients than most of the usual tarot decks that were on the market in the early to mid 1990s. As I browsed some of the websites that offered tarot decks, I happened upon a review of a deck called simply “Soul Cards”. That sounded promising so I followed the link and found Debra’s website. The rest, as they say, is history – or in this case, psychic/spiritual history.
Amazing Psychic Cases Soul Cards
My first look at the cover of the Soul Cards deck hit me straight in the solar plexus. Yes! This was the sort of archetypal yet highly individualistic image I had been searching for! The image on the box was totally arresting. There were echoes of the esoteric characters of William Blake, faint hints of Carol Griggs’ ghostly images of Native Americans and Susan Seddon-Boulet’s shamanistic/mythic iconic figures. But none of these artistic styles defined Deborah’s Soul Images. They were rather a new artistic genre and a new tool that could carry the conscious mind into deeper territory, the psychic realm of the Soul. Almost as interesting as the images themselves, was the story of how Deborah developed her unique approach to drawing the images out of her unconscious. It would not be inaccurate to say that Deborah’s style was a product of serendipity, a happy accident that occurred as she was cleaning up a friend’s art print studio at Cooper Union Art School in New York City. In a 1991 interview with Dr. Cat Saunders, Deborah described it like this:
“In 1974, on my last day in art school, I had an ecstatic creative awakening. In a moment of playful exploration, I moved my fingertips on a paper towel that had been intended to wipe off the paint below it. I turned over the towel and saw childlike scrawls that had appeared from the pressure of my touch. Lines coming directly from my fingertips! I began to laugh ecstatically with this discovery. In a timeless moment, I realized that I had received a precious gift; a direct mode of expression that fulfilled not only my own search for a more natural way to draw, but had the potential to fulfill the longing of others to open to their creative source. With this realization there came a sense of responsibility. Somehow, I would have to find a way to share this gift with the world. I named the process, simply, Touch Drawing.”
Although the initial insight came quickly, Deborah spent years refining the process of Touch Drawing and invented a completely new type of ‘performance art’ in which she sat at the side of the stage whilst a group of actors used story lines suggested by members of the audience to improvise a performance. Deborah’s function was to create touch drawing images of her feelings and experience as the story developed. Again, in Deborah’s own words:”Gradually, I became aware of a subtle over-lighting presence as I draw. Now, when I bring my attention to the drawing board, my hands trace the beginnings of a sensed image. In deep focus and trust, I abandon myself to the process and watch as an image emerges onto the page.” It is the ‘deep trust’ and the act of abandoning oneself to the moment that makes the images on the Soul Cards so psychically powerful.
Amazing Results With Soul Cards
Some of my clients report a nagging feeling of not fully inhabiting their lives and just ‘going through the motions’ so as not to upset those around them or confound the expectations of society in general. This is where I find Soul Cards are particularly useful. The images on the cards arose from the deep recesses of the artist’s unconscious, the source of all renderings of human archetypal experience. Deborah created a direct method of accessing the archetypal depths of our unconscious storehouse of dream characters, shamanic shape-shifting, and juxtapositions of symbols that shape our experience of ourselves. This approach to art was totally instinctual and therefore enormously powerful. But suppose for a moment that Deborah had laughed about her initial experience of creating images using only her fingers? Suppose she had let the voice that says ‘finger art is only for children’ stop her from exploring the possibilites of this new approach to spontaneous drawing. These images would never have seen the light of day. The artist would have gone on to have a very different sort of artistic career and the world would not have been enriched as it has by the deeply moving and psychically powerful images of the Soul Cards. I love working with these amazing psychic images and I never cease to be amazed by my clients’ responses to the images their own unconscious minds select for them.
