In addition, thought requires language to describe experience and, since we all speak different languages, it stands to reason that if we quiet the mind which generates thoughts we will be in direct contact with universal consciousness which is silent, always at peace, in a state of balance, a steady state of potential. We lose nothing by temporarily ceasing the mental activity of thinking. In fact, our physical brains need “down time” similar to what occurs at the deepest levels of sleep where cognitive activity ceases. This happens whether we want it to or not and our very survival may well depend upon this aspect of mind-brain inactivity. It is, however, impossible to explain in language what the voluntary cessation of thought feels like. Stopping the mind temporarily is the way to Free Your Mind to expand into universal consciousness.

We live out two existences simultaneously: our individual physical existence and our parallel existence as points of consciousness within the universal sea of consciousness. Meditation turns our attention from the noisy contents of the mind to the silent and unlimited freedom of consciousness. Once one has had this experience one knows that no matter what the circumstances in our lives, we ALWAYS have access to the rejuvenating state of silent consciousness. It is from this stillpoint that our being derives. The more crowded our lives are the less control we actually have over them and the more effort we must exert just to “run in place”. Effort is the pivotal word here. Effort takes energy that needs to be replenished on a daily basis. Eating and sleeping both help to restore energy but most of us live with a continual “sleep deficit”, a condition that increases the effect of stress on our minds as well as our bodies. If we can’t get more sleep on a daily basis and our lives are largely lived at the mercy of clocks and calendars, what can we do that takes an absolute minimum of time but yields the maximum reward in the form of improved functioning mentally, physically and emotionally? There is no more efficient or effective thing we can do other than meditation. Think of it as the universal spa that’s open to all. Better yet, once learned meditation is a tool that will serve you for a lifetime making your life easier and much more enjoyable than it is now. Why? Because there is no more powerful force in life than a truly free mind. A free mind is always aware of choices that the shackled mind misses. It allows us to deal with experiences of all kinds with greater confidence, greater intelligence and greater effectiveness. Why would anyone settle for less?
