Psychic Reading With Tarot

Why do Psychic use Tarot cards in their readings?

There seems to me to be a great deal of mis-understanding surrounding the whole subject of Tarot Decks. There is an unfortunate link in the popular imagination between Tarot and the “Occult”.  On the one Celtic Tarot discussed by Delia O' Riordanhand, people are well enough informed  to understand that Alchemy, for example, is a symbolic system that is actually about understanding the nature of consciousness and existence and not a physical system for making something like nickel into gold. Yet, there remains a sort of superstitious taboo to the effect that alchemy is a ‘black art’ employing some nefarious or evil energy to accomplish its aims. I think it’s time to hold the baby in one arm and toss the bath water out with the other. In other words, view everything as ‘natural’ because it is. Dark forces are projections from the human unconscious and symbol systems like Tarot or thought experiments like alchemy can help to make unconscious material accessible to the conscious mind.  Once such material becomes conscious it loses its ‘power’ over us and, to the extent that we understand and accept the once unconscious material, we free ourselves from emotional enslavement.

Psychic Readings With Tarot

The most important thing about a good Tarot deck is that it is a tool for self-understanding. I’mVisconti-Sforza Magician discussed by Delia O' Riordan often asked why I work with particular decks and not others. There is a huge selection of decks on the market nowadays. I view decks in terms of the impact the imagery has on my psychic sense. Cards that portray psychically laden archetypes capture and hold my attention. This is partly because of the drawing power of the archetypes themselves and partly because of the artistic or historic merit of the rendering of the archetypes. As Tarot became more popular in western – and particularly American – culture, all sorts of new decks were devised employing various ‘themes’ such as Celtic, Wiccan, Native American, Egyptian, etc. Because these are somewhat artificial creations, the effectiveness of the images varies greatly from the original images of the oldest known decks. Ultimately, one can only test a deck by working with it for a period of time. Although I may be attracted to new decks because of the quality of the art work, what matters to me is how deeply the imagery works affects me. If I don’t connect deeply with the images, the deck is not for me.

Tarot Speaks All Languages

Visconti World discussed Delia O' RiordanOne reason Tarot holds such fascination for us is that the images are recognizable across cultures. All cultures will have a magical tradition so the Magician will be easily identified whether we are in Timbuktu or Tierra del Fuego. Likewise the image of rulers like the Empress or Emperor, Death or The Lovers. These are human archetypes not just cultural artifacts and their impact is universal. In addition to the universality of the images of the Major Arcana or Trumps a wealth of  subtle information is available to the skilled reader. Tarot is not just a “system” that one can memorise and then mechanically apply in all circumstances. The imagery and symbolism built into the individual cards and their relationship to each other in the context of a reading requires sensitivity to interpret. A card’s meaning and importance can vary according to its placement in the reading and must be understood in the wider context of the Querent’s life and circumstances in order to take advantage of the wisdom the combination of cards offers to us. A skilled Tarot reader can tell you a great deal about yourself and where you are on your personal journey.  Used only as a means of ‘fortune telling’, the cards can also point to the future and identify some individual challenges but by far the greater value of the Tarot is in its use for self-knowledge. I am happy to do both kinds of readings for my clients depending upon their preferences.
